Time to Put Communities First
Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has welcomed proposals from DUP Communities Minister Gordon Lyons to strengthen the powers available to housing providers to deal with anti-social tenants and protect law-abiding families.

For too long, communities across Northern Ireland have suffered from the actions of a small minority of tenants whose behaviour blights neighbourhoods. Housing providers have often been left powerless to act, while families who play by the rules are left to endure intimidation, disruption, and fear.
Speaking about the issue Carla Lockhart MP said:
“Too many constituents contact me to share the misery they face because of anti-social tenants living nearby. Loud parties into the night, intimidation of neighbours, and a disregard for community standards can make life unbearable for decent families. Communities thrive when there is respect, but sadly too many are currently paying the price for a system that does not go far enough to deal with repeat offenders.”
“That is why I welcome the proposals being brought forward by the DUP Communities Minister to the Executive. These will provide tougher powers for housing providers, including injunctions to stop disruptive behaviour in its tracks, repossession powers for repeat offenders who show no regard for their community, and stricter eligibility rules so that those who cause harm are not prioritised for social housing.”
“This is about fairness. Families who play by the rules, pay their rent, and contribute positively to their neighbourhoods deserve to feel safe in their homes. It is not right that they are left powerless while those who repeatedly engage in disruptive or threatening behaviour face little consequence. These changes will send a clear message, social housing is a privilege, not a licence to torment neighbours.”
“The DUP is committed to standing up for decent tenants and safe neighbourhoods. These proposals are about putting communities first, supporting families, and ensuring that those who want to live peacefully can do so without fear. Those who wreck communities should face consequences, not rewards.”
