Funding Opportunity for Local Bands

Carla Lockhart MP • September 3, 2025

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has welcomed the announcement of new funding from Communities Minister Gordon Lyons to support bands across Northern Ireland in showcasing their talent beyond our shores.

The Travel Awards for Bands Programme, delivered by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, is now open for applications. The scheme will provide financial support for bands travelling outside the region to perform and represent Northern Ireland on a wider stage.

Speaking on the issue Carla Lockhart MP said:

“Bands are at the heart of so many of our local communities. They bring people together, nurture young talent, and provide a strong cultural expression that is rightly celebrated here at home. This new funding will allow local bands to share that tradition further afield and showcase the musical excellence that exists across Northern Ireland.”

“I encourage all eligible groups, including accordion, brass, concert, flute, pipe, and wind bands to consider applying. Grants of between £500 and £5,000 are available to assist with travel costs, which will help reduce the financial burden and ensure that as many groups as possible can take part.”

“I would also urge local bands in Upper Bann to explore this opportunity. If anyone requires assistance with the application process, please do not hesitate to contact my office and we will be happy to help.”

The deadline for applications is 12 noon, Monday 22nd September.
