About

About

Growing up on the family farm outside Aughnacloy, I learned some key values that have stayed with me to this day – hard work, respect, to be a good neighbour and never forget my roots.

My parents have always been a constant source of support and put great value on education and using common sense. I attended Aughnacloy College before studying at the University of Ulster, graduating in Business Studies. My experience inspires me to ensure everyone has access to fulfil their potential and access a first-class education.

I joined the DUP while at University, inspired by the conviction politics of Ian Paisley and the confident, coherent unionist message of Peter Robinson. In 2007 I became a Local Councillor for Lurgan and had the privilege of being the last ever Mayor of Craigavon Borough Council. In 2016 I was elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly, and in 2019 I became Member of Parliament for Upper Bann. None of this could have been done without the support of people right across the community, and I am truly humbled to be entrusted to be your representative in Westminster.

Away from politics, I am happily married to Rodney, a quantity surveyor and farmer. And we are so blessed to have Charlie, our son, who keeps us entertained and fills our home with happiness and fun.

Maiden Speech

Wednesday 8th January 2020

Carla used her maiden speech, in the House of Commons, to call on the British Government to stop legislation for abortion laws for Northern Ireland.

During the speech she also highlighted my pro union position and reached out to others in the constituency and said that i will be an MP for all of the people of Upper Bann.

Carla focused on areas she wants to champion across Upper Bann, special needs education, investment in mental health services and in particular suicide prevention given the high number of people who appear to feel they have nowhere to turn.
