MP Celebrates 145 Years of The Salvation Army in Lurgan
Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has joined with members of the Lurgan Salvation Army Corps to celebrate an incredible milestone, 145 years of service, faith, and community outreach in the town.

Founded in 1879, the Lurgan Corps has been a constant source of support and compassion for generations of local families, embodying the Salvation Army’s mission of “Heart to God and Hand to Man.” From offering practical help to those in need, to providing spiritual guidance and a welcoming community, the Army continues to be a force for good within Lurgan and beyond.
Speaking after attending the anniversary service, Carla Lockhart MP said:
“It was a real honour to join with the Lurgan Salvation Army Corps as they celebrated their incredible 145th anniversary. What a force for good the Salvation Army has been, not just across the globe, but right here in Lurgan.
One hundred and forty-five years is a truly momentous milestone, and I am so thankful for the current Corps and all that they continue to do within our community. Their compassion, service, and unwavering faith touch so many lives, from supporting those in crisis to offering friendship and hope to anyone who walks through their doors.
What a blessing it was to hear the songsters and the band, whose music lifted hearts and reminded us of the joy of worship. It was a wonderful occasion, filled with warmth, gratitude, and faith, and it was lovely to celebrate alongside so many dear friends who really are like family.
I pray that God will continue to bless the Salvation Army and all who serve through it, and that many souls will be saved through its ongoing witness. The Army’s presence in Lurgan has made a lasting difference for 145 years, and I have every confidence it will continue to do so for generations to come.”
Carla Lockhart was joined at the event by Lord Mayor Stephen Moutray and Councillor Peter Haire, along with members of the congregation and wider community.
