Lockhart Marks Holocaust Memorial Day and Reaffirms Commitment to Never Again
Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has marked Holocaust Memorial Day by joining colleagues at Westminster in remembrance of the millions of victims of the Holocaust, reaffirming the importance of education, vigilance and standing firmly against antisemitism and all forms of hatred in society today. The annual day of remembrance serves both to honour those who were murdered and to underline the responsibility placed on current and future generations, with the stark reminder that if a minute’s silence were held for every person murdered, the world would be silent for more than eleven years.

Carla Lockhart MP said:
“Holocaust Memorial Day is a solemn and powerful reminder of the depths of human evil and the consequences of hatred left unchecked. If we held a minute’s silence for every person murdered in the Holocaust, the world would be silent for more than eleven years. That fact alone should stop us all in our tracks.
“Today in Westminster, I signed the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment on behalf of the people of Upper Bann. It was an important moment to reaffirm our shared responsibility to remember the six million Jewish men, women and children who were murdered, and all victims of genocide whose lives were taken because of hatred and prejudice.
“Remembrance is not just about the past. With antisemitism and attacks on Jewish communities rising once again, it is vital that we speak out clearly and consistently against anti-Jewish hatred and the dangerous rhetoric that too often leads to violence.
“We remember the victims. We educate future generations. And we commit ourselves to ensuring that such horrors are never allowed to happen again.”
