Lockhart Challenges BBC’s ‘Woke Agenda’ in Parliament

Carla Lockhart MP • November 12, 2025

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has challenged the BBC over what she described as its “lefty, woke agenda” that is increasingly out of step with the values and views of the majority of people across the United Kingdom.

Raising the issue in the House of Commons, Mrs Lockhart referred to the BBC’s decision to uphold a complaint against presenter Martine Croxall, who replaced the phrase “pregnant people” with “women” while on air, a correction rooted in biological fact.

Speaking after her parliamentary question, Carla Lockhart MP said:

“Last week we learned that the BBC upheld a complaint about their presenter Martine Croxall. Her so-called ‘offence’ was using the correct term, women, instead of the ideologically driven phrase ‘pregnant people’. That is a scientific fact. There are two genders, male and female, and one of those genders can become pregnant, women.

Somehow the BBC concluded that her eye roll conveyed a personal view. It is absurd that stating a simple biological truth can now be treated as a breach of impartiality.

The BBC’s left-leaning, woke agenda is not in step with right-thinking people who expect fairness, common sense, and accuracy at the core of public broadcasting. The Corporation must respect the law, including the Supreme Court ruling which makes clear that sex and gender are biological realities, not political constructs.”

Mrs Lockhart called on the Government to ensure accountability within the BBC and to safeguard impartiality across all publicly funded broadcasters.

“The BBC receives substantial public funding and therefore has a duty to reflect the views and values of the public it serves, not the narrow ideology of a vocal minority. I will continue to press for common sense, fairness, and respect for truth in all areas of public broadcasting.”
