Kernan cemetery pathways works welcomed

Carla Lockhart MP • December 5, 2023

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has welcomed the commencement of works at Kernan Cemetery to address concerns around the standard of pathways around a section of the grounds. The MP had been engaging with Council to address constituent concerns.

The DUP representative said:

“For some time I have been working with Council Cemetery staff and management to resolve the very distressing situation that had occurred in Kernan Cemetery, where many of the paths in section C were wet, muddy and impassable for those visiting their loved ones graves.

This has caused a great deal of anguish for many people and this being the case, I have been pressing the Council to take appropriate works to address the poor conditions underfoot.

There have been many meetings, and much lobbying to have this matter resolved and I am pleased to report the work to install paths at Kernan Cemetery is now underway.

The first path to have been laid is on a row without burials and is almost complete. Work will continue on rows without burials until after the Christmas period, ensuring disruption is kept to a minimum at this time when many families wish to visit the graves of loved ones.

These works will continue in the New Year, and when completed the pathways for all those visiting Kernan Cemetery in Section C will be of an appropriate standard.

I am pleased we have reached this point and thank Council’s Cemetery Staff and management for their response to the concerns raised.”
