MP marks end of Busmen’s Mission in Lurgan

Carla Lockhart MP • May 31, 2022

Local MP Carla Lockhart has paid tribute to the positive impact of the Busmen’s Mission in Lurgan, following the last meeting of the Mission last week. The Upper Bann representative visited Margaret English, whose late husband Joseph started the work 70 years ago, and presented her with a copy of an Early Day Motion tabled in the House of Commons to mark the occasion.

Carla Lockhart said:

“With seventy years of testimony and mission in this community, I know of many people who have found Christ through the evangelism of the Mission. Looking at how the Lord blessed this work with the outpouring of the Spirit, the central role on the Word and prayer is the work of the mission has borne much fruit for the Lord in this corner of the vineyard.

To mark the occasion of the last meeting, I tabled the following Early Day Motion in Westminster:

“That this House notes the positive impact of the Busmen’s Mission on the community in Lurgan for the last 70 years; marks with thanks and sorrow that the last meeting of the Mission will be held on Wednesday 25th May, and thanks all those who helped the Mission in their transformative work in the local community.”

It was wonderful for Alderman Stephen Moutray and I to join with Margaret this week and listen to her memories of the Hall, some of the characters who had been part of the fellowship, and some of the lives completely transformed by what they had heard at the Busmen’s Mission. The old time gospel meetings are special times of praise, and I could sense from Margaret that so many good times had in Lurgan.

I thank all those involved in the Mission and know that their heart for the people of this community will remain in their prayers.”
