Householders urged to remain vigilant after burglaries

Carla Lockhart MP • January 9, 2023

Member of Parliament, Carla Lockhart, has said burglaries in Lurgan and Portadown over the weekend are deeply alarming, and has urged householders and local businesses to do all they can to keep their properties secure.

Commenting, the Upper Bann representative said:

“First and foremost my thoughts are with those who have had to endured the ordeal of a break-in at their home or at their place of work.

Your home should be the place where you feel most safe and secure. It is disgusting that there are those who feel that they can violate this, and wreak havoc to steal other people’s property. In two instances in Lurgan over the weekend we have had two very disturbing burglaries, one in Monroe Aevnue and one in Toberhewny Park. At this stage the PSNI believe the two are not connected. I would appeal for anyone with any information or CCTV/Video doorbell footage that may help identify the perpetrators to bring this forward.

We also had a very worrying burglary at a licensed premises in Portadown on Saturday evening, were a female member of staff was assaulted during a robbery. A 19-year-old man has been arrested following the incident and remains in police custody. Shortly after 7.30pm, it was reported that a man had entered the premises and assaulted a female staff member, before making off on foot with a sum of cash from the till.

My message to householders and businesses is to check the security at your home or place of business and to ensure all that can reasonably be done to make your property secure is done. The PSNI and PCSP offer a range of advice on how to do this, and some home safety packs are also available. Should anyone wish to avail of these support measures, please get in touch and I will be only too happy to make the connections.”
