Carla Lockhart MP Condemns Government-Funded Sun-Dimming Experiments as Reckless and Irresponsible
Upper Bann MP, Carla Lockhart, has expressed deep concern over the UK Government’s decision to allocate £50 million towards controversial geoengineering experiments aimed at dimming the sun to combat climate change.

The Advanced Research and Invention Agency (ARIA) is set to fund small-scale outdoor experiments exploring methods such as injecting aerosolised particles into the stratosphere and brightening clouds to reflect sunlight away from Earth.
Speaking on the issue, Carla Lockhart MP said:
“At a time when our pensioners struggle to heat their homes, farmers face unprecedented challenges, and families grapple with a cost-of-living crisis, it is utterly baffling that the Government would prioritise funding for experiments to block out the sun.”
“This is God’s creation—not something for politicians or scientists to tamper with. The sun is essential for life, agriculture, and our natural ecosystems. Interfering with it through untested and potentially dangerous means is both reckless and irresponsible.”
“While addressing climate change is crucial, resorting to such extreme measures diverts attention from practical solutions like reducing emissions and investing in renewable energy. We need leadership grounded in common sense, not radical experiments that could have unforeseen consequences.”
Carla Lockhart has pledged to oppose these experiments in Parliament and urges concerned citizens to make their voices heard.
