MP Praises Carleton Street Orange Hall’s 150th Anniversary Rededication and Encourages Public to Visit Exhibition
Upper Bann MP, Carla Lockhart, has paid tribute to the organisers, musicians, and community members who came together to celebrate the 150th Anniversary Rededication of Carleton Street Orange Hall in Portadown, and has urged the public to visit the special anniversary exhibition running until the end of August.

The event brought together members of the Loyal Orders, local bands, community representatives from across the district, and visitors from further afield to honour the legacy of those who established the hall and to rededicate it for the future.
Speaking after the event, Carla Lockhart MP said:
“Tonight was a very special occasion as we gathered to mark the 150th anniversary of Carleton Street Orange Hall and to rededicate it to the memory of Lt. Col. William Blacker, a man whose vision and leadership were instrumental in shaping Portadown’s Orange heritage.
“The evening was steeped in history, honouring the legacy of William Blacker and the determination of his nephew, Major Stewart Blacker, whose drive brought the hall into being in 1875. Since then, Carleton Street Orange Hall has stood as a focal point for the Orange tradition, a meeting place for cultural and community activity, and a symbol of the values and history it represents.
“The rededication service, led by Wor. Bro. Rev. Timothy Eldon, with the opening prayer by Rev. John Pickering, was a moving and inspiring occasion. It reminded us of the importance of preserving our culture, faith, and traditions for future generations, ensuring that the hall remains a living part of our community.
“A special word of thanks must go to Portadown Heritage Tours Ltd., especially Lisa, and the dedicated committee whose meticulous planning and hard work made the evening such a success. The atmosphere was made even more memorable by the outstanding music of the Edgarstown Accordion Band, and by the young lads who greeted us with a tune on the Lambeg drum – a brilliant performance and a clear sign that our heritage is being carried forward by the next generation.
“I would encourage everyone to visit the 150th Anniversary Exhibition which runs until the end of the month. With displays covering the history of the hall, the First and Second World Wars, Drumcree, influential local figures, the Loyal Orders, and local women’s history, it is an unmissable opportunity to explore the heritage of Portadown and the wider area. This is an exhibition that cannot be missed.”
