MP Marks #Farm24 by Championing Local Farmers and Young Talent in Agriculture

Carla Lockhart MP • August 13, 2025

Upper Bann MP, Carla Lockhart, has joined the UK’s biggest agricultural social media event, #Farm24, which showcases the hard work and dedication that keeps British farming going 365 days a year.

Speaking about the initiative, Carla Lockhart MP said:

“British farmers are the backbone of our food supply, working tirelessly in all conditions to feed our nation. #Farm24 is an opportunity to shine a light on that commitment and to give the public a closer look at what farming really involves.

Recently I visited Chestnutt’s Farm in Portrush whilst on a trip to the North Coast and met William Chestnutt, a young man who is making great strides in the dairy industry. His on-site bottled milk operation is proving to be quite an attraction, drawing in customers who value quality, traceability and supporting local produce. It was hugely encouraging to hear his future plans for the farm, and to see that his ambition and vision will not be deterred by Government policy on inheritance tax or the Nutrient Action Programme.

This isn’t just farming, it’s family, it’s legacy, and it’s food produced with heart. Farmers like William work 24/7 to ensure we have the highest quality produce on our tables, and they deserve our recognition and support.

From 5am on August 8th, farmers and supporters across the UK have been sharing what a day in farming looks like. It is important that we all recognise the expertise, responsibility, and sheer effort behind every British meal.

I would encourage everyone to join the celebration, show their support for our farmers, and take pride in the world-class food they produce right here in the United Kingdom.”
