Lockhart Raises Serious Concerns Over Poor Mobile Phone Coverage in Upper Bann

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has raised serious concerns about ongoing poor mobile phone coverage across Upper Bann and is compiling evidence to present to network providers.

Speaking on the issue, Carla Lockhart MP said:

“I am standing in Scotch Street and there is virtually no mobile reception. It does not matter which network you are on, the result is the same. Dropped calls, messages that will not send, and data that simply does not work.

This is not an isolated complaint. I regularly hear from residents and businesses across Upper Bann who are experiencing the same frustration.

I recently met with Mobile UK, the trade association representing the UK’s four major mobile network operators, EE, Virgin Media O2, Vodafone and Three, to raise the growing concerns about poor coverage across our area.

I am now compiling a detailed list of locations where reception is consistently very poor. If we are to secure improvements, we need clear and specific evidence.

I would encourage anyone experiencing similar problems to get in touch with the exact location, including address and postcode, the network provider, a brief description of the issue and their contact details so I can keep them updated.

This will not fix the problem overnight. However, it is time to put real pressure on providers who receive significant sums from customers through their contracts to properly serve rural Upper Bann and communities across Northern Ireland.

Reliable mobile coverage is no longer a luxury. It is essential for business, public safety and everyday life. Our communities deserve better, and I will continue pressing for meaningful improvements.”
