Lockhart provides update on Legananny Road subsidence

Carla Lockhart MP • January 17, 2024

DUP MP Carla Lockhart has provided an update to residents and road users of Legananny Road, following concerns regarding subsidence. The Upper Bann representative has been engaging with DfI to deliver a solution as soon as possible.

Carla Lockhart said:

“I would like to thank DFI staff for their ongoing assistance as I know this is not a simple situation to resolve but I am pleased good progress is being made.

Contractors started working on the road subsidence pre-Christmas with a view to delivering a speedy resolution. Unfortunately they hit a snag with a water mains, which paused their works.

Thankfully this has quickly been taken in hand by NIW contractors, Morrows, and should be fixed by the end of the week. This will then allow DFI contractors to return to the masonry work to the bridge.

I have continued to stress the need for it to reopen as soon as possible as it is impacting travel times. New Bridge Integrated School bus routes and the roads being used as unofficial diversionary routes are in a terrible state.

All other roads impacted by this closure will be assessed in due course for maintenance/surfacing given the extra traffic they have carried during this period of sustained closure of the Legananny Road.

In the meantime I would encourage people to use the specified diversionary routes, take care on the adjoining roads and be mindful of residents living in the area with increased traffic and verges which have been damaged as a result of vehicles having to travel alternative routes.”
