Government must deliver justice in Post Office scandal

Local DUP MP Carla Lockhart has written to the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to express her support for the Government to ask to redress the injustices faced by those embroiled in the Horizon scandal impacting the Post Office.

The Upper Bann MP said:

“In recent days there has been significant public discourse concerning the convictions of sub postmasters involved in the Post Office Horizon scandal. The revelations regarding the failings of the Horizon IT system have shed light on the miscarriage of justice suffered by these individuals, one which I feely very strongly about and believe the Government must act upon to make right the wrong these people have endured.

The errors in the Horizon system have led to wrongful accusations, convictions, and devastating consequences for innocent people who served their communities diligently. These were people held in the highest respect and regard by their neighbours within their communities. Lives have been utterly changed. Hurt and trauma, none of us can imagine, has been endured by those affected.

I have written to the Prime Minister to urge him to take decisive action to support the quashing of the convictions of these sub postmasters and provide them with the justice and restitution they deserve. Given that many have lived with this horrendous injustice for many years, a swift course of action now would seem appropriate.

I trust the Prime Minister will act decisively on this matter, and put right the wrongs inflicted upon so many.”
