Carla Lockhart MP • July 16, 2025

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has paid tribute to local toddler Teddy from Rectory in Portadown, whose incredible drumming talent has captured the hearts of people across Northern Ireland and beyond.

The two-year-old sensation, dubbed the “Little Drummer Boy,” went viral after a video of him confidently playing alongside a a little girl on the flute. The clips have since reached over one million views, with more than 75,000 reactions and shares across my platforms.

Teddy’s talent and enthusiasm quickly gained media attention, including a feature on BBC News NI, further cementing his status as one of Northern Ireland’s youngest and most beloved viral stars.

Speaking about his newfound fame, Carla Lockhart said:

“Teddy is an absolute star! His rhythm, confidence and innocence have truly taken the internet by storm. At just two years old, he has become a symbol of everything that is heartwarming and special about our culture tradition passed from generation to generation with pride and passion.

We are all incredibly proud of him, none more so than his wonderful family and the fantastic community in Rectory, who have been so supportive and excited to see Teddy shine. The video has brought smiles to thousands of people and put a real spotlight on the positive side of our traditions.

I wanted to mark the moment with a small token a wee Lambeg drum of his very own as a keepsake to remind him in years to come just how loved and celebrated he is. He may only be two, but Teddy has already shown he’s a rising star in the world of drumming and bands.”

“This moment has brought so much joy to so many. Well done Teddy you’ve made your community proud, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for you.”

The Rectory Community Action Group also praised the family and the support shown locally, saying the viral moment had united people in pride and positivity.
