Carla Lockhart, MP for Upper Bann, has criticised the Chancellor’s Spring Statement, calling it a missed opportunity to provide real support to hardworking people across the UK.
Speaking after the announcement in Parliament, Ms Lockhart highlighted key sectors that were ignored and warned that the government’s policies would place further strain on families, businesses, and local communities.

Carla Lockhart MP said:
"Today’s Spring Statement was a chance for the Chancellor to right the wrongs of her Autumn Budget. Instead, it was another disappointment for working people, with no real measures to ease the burden on those who keep our economy moving.
"There was no mention of our farmers, who work tirelessly to feed the nation and keep our food supply chain running. No mention of the hospitality sector, where workers now face job losses due to the rise in National Insurance contributions. No mention of family-run businesses, which will be hit hard by changes to Business Property Relief. These are the people who need support, yet they were ignored.
"Death taxes and job taxes do not help working people. They make it harder for them to earn a living, provide for their families, and invest in their futures. How can the Chancellor claim to stand for hardworking people while making their lives more difficult?
"This government must do better. It is time for real action to support those who work hard and contribute so much to our society."
