Travel industry bouncing back

Carla Lockhart MP • August 22, 2023

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has visited local travel agents Terra Travel, at their Rushmere Centre premises, to discuss the needs of the local travel agency industry.

Speaking after the visit, the DUP representative said:

“Our travel agents do an amazing job in advising people on how to secure their dream holidays, or assisting with business travel. Many people still much prefer that in-depth knowledge that a travel agent offers, rather than the online holiday markets and comparison sites.

We are very fortunate locally to have travel agents with a wealth of knowledge and experience, who can offer good value for travellers. One such business is Terra Travel, where Terry and Damian have around 50 years of experience in the sector. Many people across Upper Bann can testify to the first class customer experience offered by Terra Travel down through the years.

These businesses have been through hugely challenging periods in recent years. The ash cloud was one such challenge, and of course COVID-19 was hugely damaging with travel essentially wiped out. We also have had the recent fires that has devastated so many places. It has been a nightmare for those in the industry.

The sector has responded with grit and determination, but it has also resulted in the creation of the Association of Northern Ireland Travel Agents. This is a positive step that will help the sector in presenting a strong voice to Government.

I will continue to work closely with the industry to ensure their needs are heard by Government, and look forward to ongoing dialogue with local businesses and the newly created industry body.”
