Toucan crossing for Kernan Hill Road welcomed by DUP

Local Member of Parliament Carla Lockhart and Craigavon Councillor Margaret Tinsley have welcomed a commitment from the Department for Infrastructure to provide a Toucan crossing for Kernan Hill Road. The DUP representatives have also secured an extension of the 40mph speed limit to Drumford Close.

Commenting, Carla Lockhart said:

 

“This is great news for the community. By installing a toucan crossing at this site, it will make it much safer for people crossing the road. With the new play park nearby, it is all the more pressing to keep pedestrians safe.

 

I want to pay tribute to my colleague Councillor Margert Tinsley for her work in securing this crossing. Margaret has been persistent in her engagement with DfI on behalf of the community and her hard work has paid off. It is a great example of a strong local voice delivering a positive outcome for a local community.”

 

Margaret Tinsley added:

 

“With the commitment from DfI to install a Toucan crossing, along with the extension of the speed limit to Drumford Close, we are making positive progress towards making this road safer for the local community.

 

The toucan crossing will provide a safe passage across the road for pedestrians and cyclists. With the new play park in the area, it is vital that a safe route to the park is provided. This scheme will deliver this safe route to the park.

 

Work will be completed by the end of this financial year. NIE are now tasked with providing the electricity connection, and following this DfI will complete their works.

 

I look forward to the completed scheme by the end of March at the latest.”
