Remembrance of the fallen a reminder of sacrifices made

Carla Lockhart MP • November 22, 2022

DUP MP Carla Lockhart has thanked all those at Bethany Free Presbyterian Church for conducting a very solemn Remembrance Service, held on Sunday 20th November.

Speaking after the service, the Upper Bann representative said:

“Every year the congregation here at Bethany Free Presbyterian hold their Remembrance Service, and offer the congregation and wider community the opportunity to pause, reflect and remember the sacrifices made by so many in service of our nation. With the support of the Portadown Branch of the Royal British Legion and RBL Lurgan and Brownlow Branch, it is always a poignant act of remembrance to the fallen.

It was very moving to hear from Major David Johnstone during the service, who reflected upon his time in Iraq and his own personal story of faith whilst on the battlefield. The horrors of war ought not be forgotten, and as I listened to his account of war my thoughts were very much with those in Ukraine who today face similar horrors.

It was an honour to lay a wreath at the service and my thanks go to the church leadership for organising this service, and to the ladies of the congregation for a sumptuous supper for all those in attendance.”
