Remembrance Garden in shadow of Parliament a reminder of freedoms secured by the fallen

Carla Lockhart MP • November 14, 2023

DUP MP Carla Lockhart joined MPs from across the United Kingdom in laying a Poppy Cross on behalf of the people of Upper Bann in the Speaker’s ‘Constituency Garden of Remembrance’ in Westminster.

Speaking from London, Carla Lockhart said:

“It was a solemn privilege to lay a Poppy Cross in the Speaker’s ‘Constituency Garden of Remembrance’ in Westminster.

MPs from across the UK join together in laying a cross in solemn remembrance of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice from their constituency, in defence of our nation. It is poignant to do this in the shadow of Parliament, which represents the democratic freedoms so many died to protect within our country. Against tyranny, so many people left their homes here in Upper Bann to go to foreign fields to defend our freedom. Indeed, here in Northern Ireland, many lost their lives to the evil of terrorism, terrorism which sought to destroy our nation.

I am grateful for each opportunity I have to pay tribute to the sacrifice of so many, and I thank the Speaker of the House for facilitating this Garden of Remembrance here at Westminster.”
