Portadown FC Act of Remembrance a solemn and poignant ceremony

Carla Lockhart MP • November 9, 2022

Local Member of Parliament Carla Lockhart has thanked the Directors of Portadown Football Club for holding their annual Remembrance Service, prior to their match against Linfield Football Club on Saturday.

Carla Lockhart said:

“In this period of national Remembrance, communities across Upper Bann will be congregating at Memorials to the fallen in the course of the next week, paying their respects to those who laid down their lives for the freedoms we enjoy today.

Portadown Football Club hold this Act of Remembrance annually and it is a solemn and poignant reminder of those from the Portadown and wider area who made the ultimate sacrifice. We think of those who died in the Great War and World War II, but also those who died in other conflicts such as Iraq and Afghanistan.

We also remember those who died in standing against terrorism in Northern Ireland. In the Upper Bann area we think of many who were murdered by cowards in the line of duty. Their sacrifice, and the sacrifice of all, must never be forgotten.

My thanks go to the Directors of Portadown Football Club for holding this Act of Remembrance. This Club is very much at the heart of the community and stands with the community as we all pay our respects to the fallen at this time.”
