PHENOMENAL RESPONSE TO NEED IN UKRAINE

Carla Lockhart MP • March 13, 2022

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has commended all the groups locally behind gathering up aid to send to Ukraine. Last week the local MP helped out at a number of locations run on behalf of the Hope for Youth Ministries run by Colin and Joanna Tinsley.

This has been one of the biggest efforts locally but there are many other efforts run by Orange Halls, Churches and local businesses which will have an equally beneficial effect. Colin and Joanna have been supported by a huge number of volunteers in sending over 25 lorry loads of aid to Poland where Joanna is on the ground coordinating the distribution of it.

Speaking after her visit on Saturday to the Hope for Youth operations Carla Lockhart said, “I was blown away by the sheer kindness and goodwill of the people of Northern Ireland. I know this has been replicated by many across the constituency from local businesses to loyal orders and church groups. It’s been such a blessing to see this kindness to people who through no fault of their own are being displaced.

The Hope for Youth logistics coordination has been amazing to see. I had the opportunity to go and help out for a number of hours on Saturday and got stuck in with all the willing volunteers who had come along. It really is a great work being done by Colin and Joanna and special mention to Robin and Andrea Harper who have allowed their sheds and facilities to be used to support this.

I have posted on my social media of local places and groups which are helping these efforts and if you need any assistance with getting goods transported please let me or my office no.

We stand with Ukraine. Last week I witnessed a standing ovation in the House of Commons for the first time since I was elected to Parliament. The Ukrainian ambassador was a visitor in the public gallery which provoked this spontaneous round of applause. I also was able to sign the book opened by the Speaker, Sir Lindsay Hoyle to voice my solidarity with the people of Ukraine on behalf of Upper Bann.
