Lockhart joins farm walk at Dunlarg Dexters

DUP Westminster Agriculture Spokesperson Carla Lockhart joined representatives of the NI Dexter Cattle Group at a farm walk in South Armagh last week, at the home of Dunlarg Dexters, bred by Nigel and Vikki McIlwrath outside Keady.

Speaking after the visit, the Upper Bann representative said:

“Credit must go to the Northern Ireland Dexter Group for their ongoing showcasing and support of those breeding Dexter cattle across the Province.

I know that farmers greatly appreciate the farm walk experience, which is always an opportunity to learn more, adopt good practice, and ultimately take ideas home that can improve the farm business of everyone present.

Today was certainly such an event, with Nigel McIlwrath showing us how he has adopted the Dexter breed on farm, and how that has worked for him here on the farm outside Keady. Of course the end product is safe, traceable, succulent beef for the consumer, and it was good to hear of the strong market interest in dexter beef within the Northern Ireland market.

I wish Nigel and Vikki well as their farm evolves. These family farms are the lifeblood of our agriculture industry and whilst times are challenging across many sectors, we know the industry is resolute and can always be guaranteed to produce the best quality product for consumers here and beyond.”
