MP praises new food pantry scheme

Carla Lockhart MP • April 10, 2022

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has visited the new Freedom Food Pantry in Emmanuel Church, Lurgan, and commended the church fellowship for the new scheme that supports those in food hardship in the local community.

Carla Lockhart said:

“We are living in the midst of a cost of living crisis, with many households finding it more and more difficult to make ends meet and put food on the table. Indeed, the weekly food shop seems to be getting more and more expensive and is predicted to see further rises in the weeks and months ahead.

In this context, the opening of this innovative Freedom Food Pantry by the fellowship here at Emmanuel Church, Lurgan, is most timely. In exchange for a weekly subscription of £4.00, or £6.00 for families, members of the pantry can come along and shop for food including fresh fruit, vegetables and store cupboard favourites that will value at around £25.00.

Anyone interested in joining this scheme can contact Nicola at Emmanuel Church on 03330503223.

I want to thank the Pastoral team and church leadership here at Emmanuel for this initiative. It will certainly meet a growing need in our community, and is a wonderful example of the Church showing love in the community and practical outworking of that Christian love for local people.”
