MP celebrates unsung hero Don

Carla Lockhart MP • July 18, 2023

Local MP Carla Lockhart has presented Don Corkin from Avenue Road Residents Committee with an ‘unsung hero’ award, in recognition of his community and voluntary work in the area.

Carla Lockhart said:

“Every month I will be paying my own tribute to local people in our community who are making a difference – the ‘unsung heroes’ in our area.

The first award goes to Don Corkin of Avenue Road Residents Committee. For many years Don has worked away in the Avenue Road are of Lurgan, tidying the place up, weeding, planting flowers and so on. Making the place look good for all residents. Last year he took on the mammoth task of rejuvenating an area of waste ground into a Coronation Garden, and made a fantastic job of it.

It was an honour to present Don with a set of Coronation Cufflinks and Tie Pin, from the Empire Poppy Store at Brownlow House, as a mark of appreciation for all his endeavours. Keep an eye out for future awards to local people making a difference.”
