Upper Bann MP confirms Ballygowan Road, Banbridge identified as priority resurfacing scheme for 2026–27 following sustained representations.

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has welcomed confirmation from the Department for Infrastructure that Ballygowan Road in Banbridge has now been formally identified as a priority resurfacing scheme for 2026–27.

Speaking on the issue, Carla Lockhart MP said:

“I have been pressing the Department for Infrastructure regarding the ongoing condition of Ballygowan Road and the persistent pothole issues that residents have been forced to endure.

I can now confirm that the road has been formally identified as a priority resurfacing scheme for 2026–27. That is an important step forward.

Of course, I would much prefer to see the work carried out immediately. Local residents have been dealing with poor road surfaces and repeated pothole problems for far too long.

While the local maintenance office is hopeful that resurfacing will proceed next year, this remains subject to budget confirmation. I will continue to keep the pressure on to ensure funding is secured and that this scheme moves ahead without further delay.

Our community deserves roads that are safe, properly maintained and fit for purpose. I will continue to fight for investment in our local infrastructure.

The Fix Our Roads campaign goes on, and I would encourage anyone experiencing issues in their area to get in touch so I can pursue them with the Department.”
