Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM) in Parliament to recognise and celebrate the 70th anniversary of Waringstown Women’s Institute and its longstanding contribution to community life in the village and surrounding area.

The motion, tabled on 12 January 2026, congratulates Waringstown Women’s Institute on reaching this significant milestone and recognises the vital role it has played over seven decades in supporting women, strengthening community ties and enriching village life.
The EDM highlights the Institute’s deeply valued contribution to the social fabric of Waringstown, where members have championed friendship, mutual support and community spirit. It acknowledges the important role the WI plays in tackling social isolation, fostering inclusion and strengthening wellbeing through educational programmes, social activities and collective endeavour, while providing a welcoming environment for women of all ages and backgrounds.
The motion also recognises the dedication of past and present members whose voluntary service has sustained the Institute for 70 years, and notes the WI’s role in promoting skills, confidence and community engagement in line with the mission of the Federation of Women’s Institutes of Northern Ireland.
Speaking following the tabling of the motion, Carla Lockhart MP said:
“It was a privilege to table this Early Day Motion in Parliament to mark the 70th anniversary of Waringstown Women’s Institute. For seven decades, the WI has been at the heart of village life, providing friendship, support and a strong sense of belonging for women in the local community.
“Waringstown WI has made an invaluable contribution to tackling social isolation, encouraging lifelong learning and strengthening wellbeing. Its impact goes far beyond its membership, enriching the wider community through service, fellowship and shared endeavour.
“I want to pay tribute to all those who have been involved with the Institute over the years. The commitment and dedication of volunteers, past and present, has ensured its continued success, and I wish Waringstown Women’s Institute every success as it continues to serve the community for many years to come.”
