Impact of Portadown Widows Group celebrated

Carla Lockhart MP • October 3, 2023

Local MP Carla Lockhart has praised the positive role in the local community played by Portadown Widows Group, as the group marked its 40th anniversary at a celebratory reception in Portadown Town Hall.

Speaking after attending the event, the Upper Bann MP said:

“It was lovely to be invited to a night of celebration for 40 years of Portadown Widows in Portadown Town Hall. This group has had such a positive impact on so many lives in the locality, often at a time when people have been impacted by loss and grief.

It was particularly pleasing to see three founding members, Dorothy, Lilly, and Lucy come together again and enjoy many happy and some sad memories as they recounted some of the 40 years together as a group. Just sitting and listening to the ladies was inspiring, but it also filled me with gratitude that this wonderful group exists in this area to help widows adapt to life on their own.

My thanks also to the Lord Mayor for her support for this event. It is right and proper that such groups get civic recognition for the work they do, all on a volunteer basis. I know Portadown Widow’s Group will continue to do an amazing job in the area in the future.”
