Heating Oil Prices Drop to Lowest Level Since 2021
Upper Bann MP, Carla Lockhart, has welcomed a significant drop in home heating oil prices across Northern Ireland, offering welcome relief to households facing ongoing pressures with the cost of living. According to the latest figures from the Consumer Council, prices are now at their lowest point since 2021, following months of volatility triggered by global market conditions and conflict-related supply issues.

Speaking on the issue Carla Lockhart MP said:
“This is welcome news for families and individuals across Northern Ireland who rely on home heating oil particularly in rural constituencies like Upper Bann, where oil remains the most common method of home heating.
As of early May 2025, average prices are as follows:
• 300L – £165.93
• 500L – £258.78
• 900L – £457.47
This marks a significant drop from the March 2022 peak, when the average cost of 500 litres soared to over £660.
While this decrease provides some much-needed breathing space for households, I would continue to urge consumers to shop around using the Consumer Council’s Price Checker, which is a valuable tool for finding the best local deals.
With prices still subject to market fluctuation, I also continue to call for long-term measures that protect consumers particularly the elderly and vulnerable from sudden spikes in energy costs.”
