Carla Lockhart Welcomes Progress on Pedestrian Crossing at Scarva Road, Banbridge

Carla Lockhart MP • April 2, 2025

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has welcomed confirmation from the Department for Infrastructure that an assessment for a controlled pedestrian crossing at Scarva Road, outside St Patrick’s College, Banbridge, has been completed and is now under active consideration for inclusion in a future works programme.

Carla Lockhart said:

I am pleased that following my strong representation on this issue, the Department has assessed the need for a pedestrian crossing at this busy location. The safety of pupils, staff, and local residents is paramount, and a controlled crossing would provide much-needed protection for those navigating this stretch of road on a daily basis.

It is encouraging to see this request progress to an active list for potential inclusion in the Department’s work programme. I will continue to engage with officials to press for this vital infrastructure to be prioritised and delivered as soon as possible.

I want to thank all those who have raised concerns and supported the call for this crossing. I will keep pushing for further updates and, most importantly, for action to be taken to improve road safety in our community.

The Department for Infrastructure has stated that if successful, the project will be included in their work programme, which is presented to the council each year and published online.”
