Carla Lockhart MP Welcomes Accessibility Improvements at Lurgan and Brownlow RBL Branch
Carla Lockhart MP has praised the Lurgan and Brownlow Branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) for securing £7,500 in funding to improve accessibility at their premises. The grant, provided by the Veterans’ Foundation, has enabled the installation of a new stairlift, ensuring better access for veterans and members of the local community.

Speaking at the official opening of the new facility, Carla Lockhart MP said:
“Well done to everyone at RBL Lurgan and Brownlow Branch on securing this much-needed funding. This improvement will make a real difference to veterans and other users of the premises, ensuring accessibility for all. It was a privilege to be part of the celebrations and to play a small role in helping to secure the funding.”
The official opening was attended by key figures from the branch, including Jim and Elizabeth Maguiness, Clive Higginson, and Ian Uprichard. A special moment was marked as Albert Houston, the longest-serving officer of the Legion, had the honour of cutting the ribbon to inaugurate the new stairlift.
Carla Lockhart MP added: “Albert Houston has been a dedicated servant of the Royal British Legion for many years, and it was fitting that he had the honour of officially opening this new facility. His commitment to supporting veterans and the wider community is truly commendable.”
She also extended her thanks to the Veterans’ Foundation for their generosity, recognising the important role they play in supporting projects that benefit those who have served.
