Carla Lockhart MP Tables Motion in Parliament to Mark 160 Years of the Salvation Army
Upper Bann MP, Carla Lockhart has tabled an Early Day Motion in Parliament to mark the 160th anniversary of The Salvation Army, and to commend the vital and compassionate work of its teams across the Upper Bann constituency.

Last week, she tabled Early Day Motion 1746 to mark the 160th anniversary of The Salvation Army a movement that began in 1865 in the East End of London and has since become a global force for good.
Speaking following the tabling of the motion, Carla Lockhart said:
“From its roots in London, The Salvation Army now operates in 134 countries, offering practical support, dignity, and hope to people facing hardship.
Here in Upper Bann, I have seen firsthand the incredible work of The Salvation Army in Lurgan and Portadown, particularly through food banks, employability programmes, and ongoing community outreach. Their service to the most vulnerable members of our society is nothing short of inspirational.
I want to extend my sincere thanks and congratulations to all the officers, volunteers, and supporters who continue to deliver this vital mission and I would especially like to commend Martin Steevenson, who consistently goes above and beyond in his service to others.”
The full wording of EDM 1746 – 160th Anniversary of The Salvation Army, tabled on 22 July 2025, is as follows:
